Rafael Camara claimed a crucial victory in the second F2 feature race at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, as he wrestled even more control of the drivers' championship from Nikola Tsolov and Alex Dunne.
The Red Bull junior and Irishman completed the podium places at the Baku City Circuit.
Dunne suffered a hammer blow to his title aspirations after earning a five-second time penalty for crossing the white line on pit entry, the same thing that saw Nikola Tsolov dropped from eighth to P11 on the grid for Feature Race 2.
The Alpine junior crossed the line in first, but dropped to third at the chequered flag.
It was a strategically complex affair, with early virtual safety cars seeing Dunne pitting earlier than Camara and Tsolov to assume control of the race.
However, the latter two pitting later afforded them fresher tyres and helped vault Camara ahead of polesitter Martinius Stenshorne and Tsolov into podium contention from his relatively lowly starting position.
Compounding Dunne's misery is that he faces a post-race investigation from the stewards for an alleged yellow flag infringement, which could bring further punishment.
Making the outcome of the third F2 race in Baku all the more vital is the looming uncertainty over whether F1 — and therefore Formula 2 — will make the scheduled trips to Qatar and Abu Dhabi later this season.
