The second Mercedes of George Russell was fourth on the board, ahead of Max Verstappen.
Oliver Bearman brought out a red flag towards the end of the session following a crash at Turn 3.
Oscar Piastri rounded out the top six, with McLaren still languishing one second down on teh pace.
