Pascal Wehrlein edged out championship leader Mitch Evans to secure pole position for the opening race of this weekend's Formula E Shanghai E-Prix.
The German secured pole after posting a 1m 09.260 in the final, with Evans being 0.203s adrift. Claiming pole and three points has reduced Wehrlein's deficit to 24 points. Jake Dennis and Maximilian Günther qualified in third and fourth.
There was disappointment for title contenders Oliver Rowland and Edoardo Mortara, with both qualifying towards the back of the grid.
Three drivers will not start where they have qualified, with Dan Ticktum having a three-place grid penalty, Zane Maloney a 43-place grid penalty and Norman Nato a 60-place grid penalty.
