Jake Dennis secured pole position for the opening race of Formula E's Tokyo E-Prix double-header, defeating Edoardo Mortara in the final.

Nico Muller crashed in the semi finals so qualified in fourth as a result, while Antonio Felix da Costa is third after being beaten by Mortara.

It was a shocking qualifying for title favourites Pascal Wehrlein, Mitch Evans and Oliver Rowland, with the top three in the standings all failing to make the duels.

Andretti's Felipe Drugovich failed to take part in qualifying, as a result of major damage following a crash in second practice.

*Zane Maloney has a 20-place grid penalty after a gearbox change.
