Former Alpine Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer has been confirmed as the new CEO and Managing Partner of Van Amersfoort Racing.
Szafnauer is one of F1’s most notable Team Principals, having guided various midfield teams through challenging times to see success.
Originally at Force India, his leadership saw a transformation, as the team frequently pushed above its weight against its tight budget.
Departing once Lawrence Stroll transformed the team into Aston Martin, Szafnauer found himself at Alpine, where he endured a challenging spell.
Disagreements with Stroll’s vision for the team led to his departure, taking over as Team Principal at Alpine.
This role led to an acrimonious divorce ahead of the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, the Romanian not seen in the paddock since.
But Szafnauer has now found a new home with junior racing outfit Van Amersfoort Racing, revealing his excitement at the next stage of his journey.
“Van Amersfoort Racing has a strong reputation for developing talent and competing at a high level across multiple categories,” Szafnauer said.
“I look forward to working closely with the leadership team and the wider organisation to guide the next phase of the team’s development.”

Van Amersfoort Racing’s Team Principal Brad Joyce, spoke of Szafnauer’s leadership qualities, having had experience of working with the Romanian as an engineer at Force India.
“Otmar’s experience and leadership add valuable perspective to the organisation,” he said.
“His appointment significantly strengthens VAR as we continue to evolve and pursue our long-term vision.”
