Alex Dunne shared a public apology to Martinius Stenshorne after he took the pair out of the F2 feature race in Melbourne.
The pair were leading the Australian Grand Prix support race at Albert Park when the Irish driver moved across his Rodin Motorsport team-mate to reclaim the advantage. It forced them both into retirement.
Dunne was eventually handed a five-place grid penalty for the next round and two points on his FIA super licence.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, he was enraged with Stenshorne, saying over team radio: Yeah... I can see how this year is going to go, nice job.
"He is never finishing in front of me ever again."
However, the 20-year-old has since backtracked on those comments, taking to social media platform Instagram to address the situation.
"I’d like to apologise to all involved after the incident yesterday. Martinius and I have spoken together and our relationship as Friends/teammates is still strong. These things can happen when fighting for the win but it’s never the intention and for that I apologise," he wrote.
"Things were said on the radio after in the heat of moment and before having the opportunity to review what happened, and has no reflection on how I will approach the rest of the season.
"We’re aware of the areas to improve and that will be worked on with the team, the pace is more than there so I’ll keep my head down and be best prepared for wherever we’re racing next.
"Thanks to the majority for the kind words, and the not so kind ones 🙂"
