IndyCar has revealed its track layout for the upcoming race through the streets of Washington, D.C to celebrate America's 250th birthday.
A quarter of a millennium on from the signing of the Declaration of Independence, it was announced earlier this year that IndyCar would race around the District of Columbia in a special points-paying race, with President Donald Trump giving his enthusiastic backing for the project.
Due to take place for the weekend of August 22nd-23rd, the race, officially the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, is a 1.7-mile, seven-turn layout, twisting through some of Washington's most important buildings.
The start/finish straight is to be on Pennsylvania Avenue itself, with the White House at one end, and the US Capitol at the other, with the George Washington monument also providing an iconic backdrop.
The field will also race past the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, home to exhibits such as the Apollo 11 command module Columbia and Charles Lindbergh's Spirit of St Louis.
The National Archives, home to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States, will also form a backdrop for the race on what has been described as a "challenging and picturesque course."
