F1 fans deliver overwhelming reply to shock Red Bull departure

F1 fans have weighed in on the biggest news stories of the week!

Gianpiero Lambiase's decision to depart Red Bull Racing for McLaren has generated significant discussion among Formula 1 fans.

The veteran race engineer, who has worked with Max Verstappen since 2016 and guided him to four world championships, will join McLaren as chief racing officer in 2028 when his current contract expires.

The move represents a substantial career progression for Lambiase, transitioning from his combined role as Verstappen's race engineer and head of racing into a senior executive position.

At McLaren, he will oversee trackside operations and relieve team principal Andrea Stella of duties he currently manages alongside his primary responsibilities.

According to a recent RacingNews365 poll, an overwhelming 72 per cent of fans believe the McLaren opportunity represents an excellent move for Lambiase's career.

However, almost 20 per cent of respondents felt Lambiase should have remained at Red Bull, despite the team's recent upheaval including the departure of Christian Horner, Adrian Newey and Helmut Marko.

A small minority suggested he should have explored opportunities with another team entirely.
