Lewis Hamilton has stated that he could benefit from the recent wet-weather test he took part in if rain arrives at the Miami Grand Prix this weekend.
Wet conditions are forecast for Sunday’s race, with thunderstorms also on the horizon that could disrupt the schedule.
The new-for-2026 cars have yet to be tested in wet conditions, as the opening three rounds were all held in the dry.
However, having recently completed an extensive number of laps in the 2026 car during a wet-weather test, Hamilton is hopeful that rain will play into his hands.
“I did two days testing the rain in Fiorano, so that hopefully puts me in a decent position if it rains on Sunday,” Hamilton told media including RacingNews365.
Ferrari and Hamilton enter the upcoming race weekend hoping to take a step forward and offer a consistent challenge to front-runners Mercedes.
The five-week break after Japan offered a chance for a deep dive into the data, and Hamilton is now hopeful the Maranello-based squad is in a stronger position ahead of the Miami round.
“It’s been good for everyone to step back and have a look at analysing their first three races,” he said.
“Obviously the last race, I could see I was down on power.
“We did a deep dive and understood that it wasn't the engine, but the systems all together, including several things like coming together.
“I was losing the eight to nine-tenths just in straight line power. So we got on top of that, worked in sim.
“I’ve been at the factory every week, I’ve been training a huge amount, I feel refreshed coming into the weekend.”
