Ferrari reach final decision over 'Macarena' rear wing after Miami upgrade

Ferrari's Macarena rear wing is back on the car in Miami - and the team have reached a decision on using it.

Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur has confirmed that the team's 'Macarena' rear wing is to stay on the car after its huge Miami upgrade.

First breaking cover during Bahrain pre-season testing, Ferrari's rear wing rotates 270 degrees to open and close as opposed to a more traditional slot opening of the DRS era, but it has not been used in a race.

It was fitted to the cars of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton in the sole Chinese GP practice session before being removed - but was reintroduced in Miami, where Red Bull even deployed a copy of the design.

Addressing the team's intentions after delivering a huge 11 upgrades to Miami, Vasseur confirmed the wing was staying on the SF-26.

"From today, we'll keep the 'Macarena' rear wing on the car," Vasseur confirmed to media, including RacingNews365.

When asked about the package itself, and speaking before Sprint Qualifying, Vasseur felt the initial steps forward were promising.

"It's positive, but I think also that we have to keep in mind that it’s the first session of the season with this sort of track temperature, and this is dominating everything," he said.

"But overall, the first feeling is positive, but we’ll see the real feedback and the real feeling after [the weekend].

"We are all at the beginning of the development. We took probably different directions, and only the future will tell us if it was the good one at the beginning or not.

"But we’ll see later on during the season. But development for these races and the next one, we are still in the phase of having a high rate of development.

"It’s true for us, it’s true for everybody, and we will see after six, seven races perhaps something a bit more stabilised."
