George Russell has backed himself to return to form in the fight for the F1 drivers’ championship over the course of the season.
Team-mate Kimi Antonelli has been in dominant form at the front of the field in recent races, taking three consecutive grand prix victories.
He now sits 20 points clear of Russell in the standings, with the latter enduring a challenging race in Miami last Sunday, where he finished fourth.
While Antonelli is the driver in form right now, Russell has stated that his greater experience will play a key role in the title battle.
“Clearly, he's in a really great place at the moment, and momentum is with him,” Russell told media including RacingNews365.
“But I've got enough experience in championships I've won, on how momentum swings throughout the year.
“And also looking at the championship last year... to be honest, I'm not even considering it.”
Next up on the schedule is Canada, where last year, Russell claimed the first of two victories in 2025.
Assessing his season so far, Russell suggested his performance at the opening three events does not reflect the current deficit in the standings.
“It's just I want to get back onto the top step of the podium,” he said. “The first three races, I had the performance to do that.
“This weekend, I absolutely did not have the performance to do that.
“I could be standing here now with three very different results from the previous races, and then this just being a bit of a one-off.
“But obviously things worked out differently in Japan and China. That's F1 sometimes.”
