Lando Norris suggests 'get rid fix' for new F1 regulations

Some strong words from Lando Norris after his first F1 race weekend under the modified 2026 regulations.

Lando Norris has suggested the only way to “fix” the current set of technical regulations is to “get rid of the battery”.

A number of drivers have voiced their concern with the new F1 cars across the opening rounds of the campaign.

Modifications were put in place for the Miami Grand Prix last weekend - but Norris is not convinced by their effect.

“It’s a small step in the right direction, but it’s not to the level that Formula 1 should still be at yet,” Norris told media including RacingNews365.

“I think we said yesterday still in qualifying, if you go flat out everywhere and you try pushing like you were in previous years, you still just get penalised for it.

“You still can’t be flat out everywhere. It’s not about being on as early on throttle everywhere.

“You should never get penalised for that kind of thing and you still do.”

In race trim, the 'yo-yo' effect was still seen during the grand prix, which leaves one driver very vulnerable to being re-overtaken after making a move of their own, due to their depleted battery.

Norris has stated he sees no scope to completely fix the issues, other than to completely eliminate the battery from the power unit.

“So honestly, I don’t really think you can fix that,” he said.

“You just have to get rid of the battery. So hopefully in a few years, that’s the case.”
