Nyck de Vries has insisted he is not letting himself become frustrated by how poorly his Formula E campaign has started, recognising that at times a "bumpy ride" simply has to be endured.
It has been a shocking first half of the season for de Vries, who sits on just 14 points after eight rounds. He deserves considerably more, although he has at times caused his own setbacks.
De Vries has been involved in his fair share of collisions already this campaign, most notably at the opening corner in São Paulo and early in Madrid.
However, the Dutchman has also experienced considerable bad luck in the form of technical faults, while in the second race in Berlin last weekend he was the unfortunate victim of a four-car sandwich.
Discussing his poor first half of the season, de Vries told RacingNews365: "Well, there is nothing really you can do. You can't really fight the current, and sometimes you just have a bumpy ride.
"And I guess in this championship, that's much more, let's say, common and likely to happen than maybe elsewhere. And there's no point getting frustrated.
"We just need to continue looking forward. What has happened has happened, and we just reset and continue. It is the way it is.
"And I think if you analyse many seasons, it happens to everyone. So yeah, it's just the way it is."
'Just the reality' - De Vries
De Vries has already failed to finish three races this season and finds himself 79 points behind Mahindra team-mate and title contender Edoardo Mortara.
While there is clearly disappointment for de Vries, who has looked strong particularly over one lap, he has accepted the situation for what it is and is not beating himself up over it.
"I mean, of course, I'm very disappointed, but it's just the reality," added de Vries. "What else can you say?
"I'm not the type of person who likes to see myself as a victim, or say, 'all this shit is happening to us'. It's just the way it is. Sometimes, yeah, you have some bumps in the road."
