Fernando Alonso has stated he has “no doubt” Aston Martin will be in a stronger position next year amid its slow start to the 2026 season.
The Aston Martin-Honda package has proven slow and unreliable across the opening rounds, leaving the team struggling to reach the chequered flag.
The Miami Grand Prix earlier this month marked the first time both cars finished a race this season, but the team still remained well outside the points.
As it recalibrates its targets for the current campaign, both parties have expressed confidence that the partnership can be successful in the future.
When asked if he is expecting next year's car to be more competitive, Alonso told media including RacingNews365: “100%, I have no doubt.
“If not, we go backwards.”
Aston Martin team principal expressed confidence after the difficulties came to light that the car has potential to fight at the front of the grid.
While a realistic goal for 2026 is in the air, Alonso is sure that Aston Martin will commence next year's campaign in a much stronger position.
“We are in a tough moment, a tough situation, the toughest part of the year,” Alonso said.
“Throughout this season, I'm pretty sure that we will go better and better when the improvements come, when we fix some issues.
“Also with the power unit and all these kind of things.
“Next year, in year two, I have no doubts that the project is going to be more prepared than it has been in year one.”
