Pierre Gasly will lead the F1 field away from pole position after taking an unexpected pole position at the Italian Grand Prix.

The Alpine driver powered his way to the top spot ahead of George Russell, in what was the closest Q3 battle in F1 history.

The starting grid has been significantly disrupted due to the application of multiple penalties.

After qualifying in third place, Oscar Piastri was punished for impeding Liam Lawson, and has subsequently dropped to sixth.

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli is one of several drivers who have dropped down the order due to an engine penalty, with Mercedes opting to fit a new power unit for the weekend.

Lawson and Williams' Alex Albon are also due to start at the back of the field.

NOTE: Grid remains provisional until officially confirmed by the FIA.
