Colton Herta backed for dream F1 race seat

Colton Herta's dream is to become a Formula 1 driver, but will he turn the dream into a reality?

The majority of Formula 1 fans believe Colton Herta will eventually secure a race seat on the grid, according to a RacingNews365 poll.

When asked whether the American will ever race in F1, 62.6% of respondents voted yes, with the remaining 37.4% voting no.

Herta currently serves as Cadillac's test driver for the 2026 season, with the 11th team opting for experience in the form of Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas for its debut campaign.

The 26-year-old has been given four FP1 outings this year, the first of which came last weekend in Barcelona, as part of an ongoing development programme designed to position him for a potential future promotion.

To earn a super licence, Herta is also competing in Formula 2 with Hitech, where he sits 13th in the standings on 20 points after five rounds.

His season has been characterised by underwhelming qualifying performances but stronger race pace, highlighted by a fifth-place finish in the Barcelona sprint.

Whether that trajectory is enough to convince Cadillac to hand him a race seat in the next coupld of seasons remains to be seen, but the fans, at least, are backing him.
