Charles Leclerc delighted his home fans with first place in the first free practice session for this weekend’s Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix.

The Ferrari driver’s 1:13.978s saw him top the timesheets by two tenths of a second from teammate Lewis Hamilton, with third-placed Max Verstappen a further three tenths back.

Title-leader, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, was fourth, ahead of fellow Mercedes driver George Russell, with Lando Norris rounding up the top six.

There were some impressive showings from Audi, with Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto both in the top 10.

For Verstappen’s teammate Isack Hadjar, it was a difficult afternoon, crashing at Tabac with around 20 minutes left.
