F1 drivers facing Barcelona challenge as intense conditions forecast

What weather conditions will the teams and drivers face this weekend in Barcelona?

Round seven of the 2026 F1 championship takes place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, one week on from the Monaco Grand Prix.

The region received a few rain showers earlier this week, but during the weekend itself, there is not expected to be any rainfall.

The sun will take centre stage and conditions will be hot, meaning the Pirelli wet weather tyres are very unlikely to be used.

Friday will see the opening two practice sessions before Saturday hosts qualifying. The grand prix itself will occur on Sunday, and across the three days, the conditions are likely to be identical.

Each day, the temperature is set to rise to 30°C, creating a challenge for the drivers.

With the sun blazing all day long, the Barcelona asphalt will heat up quickly, and track temperatures could rise to well above 50°C in the afternoon.

This will have a major impact on the tyres, making tyre management a crucial factor across the event and, in particular, the race.

For fans attending the event, sunscreen is absolutely essential as the sun’s intensity during the afternoon hours reaches a powerful UV index of 8.

Without protection, exposed skin can burn within just 10 to 15 minutes.
