Fernando Alonso set for pit-lane start after major Aston Martin changes

The two-time champion had qualified in last place for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso is set to start the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix from the pit-lane after Aston Martin elected to take new power unit components.

Alonso had qualified 22nd and slowest for his home grand prix, and was out-qualified for the first time by Lance Stroll since the 2024 British GP - a run of 42 races.

With this in mind, Aston Martin has elected to fit new power unit components to the AMR26 of the two-time champion, which takes him beyond his allocation of parts.

Aston Martin has fitted a fourth MGU-K, energy store, and control electronics to Alonso's car, with only three of each permitted through the season.

This means he is set for a pit-lane start.

The power unit ancillary components have also been changed, but this remains within the allocation permitted.
