Ferrari has been placed under investigation at the Belgian Grand Prix after the team allegedly failed to return its tyres to Pirelli before the start of FP2 at Spa-Francorchamps on Friday.
Under F1's sporting regulations, all teams are required to return used tyres to the appointed tyre supplier within a prescribed timeframe following each on-track session.
On Fridays, this means FP1 tyres must be returned before the start of the second practice session, ensuring Pirelli can update each driver's remaining tyre allocation accordingly.
It was noted that Ferrari complied with Articles B6.4.1 and B6.3.8 a) iii) by returning Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc's sets electronically.
However, it is facing an alleged breach of Article B.6.4.2 of the regulations, which governs the tyre return procedure and sets strict deadlines for the electronic and physical return of tyre sets.
It reads: “Any set of electronically returned tyres must also be physically returned to the Tyre Supplier before the start of the following session.”
A hearing with the stewards will now determine whether any penalty is warranted.
Hamilton and Leclerc ended the second practice session from Spa-Francorchamps in fourth and 11th respectively.
