Franco Colapinto caused a red flag just before the halfway stage of FP2 at the Hungarian Grand Prix with a heavy crash at the final corner of the Hungaroring.
The Alpine driver hit the barriers backwards, destroying the rear end of his A526, with Turn 14 having proved treacherous throughout the first day of track action in Budapest.
Running P20 with 32 minutes of the session remaining, the Argentine driver found himself heading the wrong way through the braking zone, with the track surface having been dusty and difficult at that point across the day.
The 23-year-old had set personal bests in the first two sectors, but with gusts of wind proving strong, the combination with a low-grip surface left him powerless to prevent the accident.
Whilst too soon to know the ultimate extent of the damage, it will likely necessitate a complete rebuild of the car's rear end.
