Honda is set to finally deliver its upgraded power unit for Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll in an "important milestone" at the Dutch Grand Prix.
Aston Martin delivered its long-awaited chassis upgrades to the AMR26 last time out at the Hungarian GP, with Alonso making Q2 for the first time in the season in a boost to the team which has struggled with chassis and power unit issues throughout the first half of the season.
The Honda engine upgrade was always planned to be delivered following on from the chassis upgrades, with the new design set to be introduced at Zandvoort, which is a Sprint weekend.
The upgraded power unit has already been tested on track at a filming day following the Hungarian GP, with trackside general manager, Orihara explaining that the introduction of the fresh design comes after an "intense period."
"The Dutch Grand Prix is an important milestone for Honda, as this is where we introduce our new spec power unit," Orihara explained.
"This is the result of an intense period of hard work at HRC Sakura together with HRC UK and Aston Martin.
“Zandvoort is a Sprint weekend, which means we only have a single free practice session.
"This will bring an additional challenge to complete the evaluation of our new package in that limited running, but it’s a test we’re looking forward to.
“In Hungary, we saw a step forward with the new chassis.
"With the new specification power unit now introduced, we look forward to building on that progress together with the team over the remainder of the season."
