Jos Verstappen has claimed Ralf Schumacher is “spreading misinformation” over a claim regarding his son, Max.
Earlier this week, Schumacher made a striking comment on the Backstage Boxengasse podcast in which he alleged that Verstappen had been offered an F1 contract by Mercedes.
However, the former F1 driver claimed Verstappen turned down the offer due to its financial conditions.
“At Mercedes, you hear that Wolff made him an offer behind the scenes,” he said. “But that offer was apparently so bad financially that it’s not an option anyway.
“That’s apparently what’s going on behind the scenes right now.”
Verstappen has long been linked with a move to Mercedes, with team boss Toto Wolff publicly voicing his desire to work with the 28-year-old at some point in the future.
But Schumacher's comment has received a response from Verstappen senior, who took to social media to shut down the comment.
“Ralf, you’re spreading misinformation again,” he wrote.
Four-time champion Verstappen has a contract in place until the end of the 2028 season.
However, it has been widely reported that Verstappen has exit clauses in his deal, which could be triggered this year.
