Josef Newgarden suffered a huge accident at the Indy 500 after a rain delay.
On Lap 125 as leader, David Malukas brought the field to green following a lengthy caution period for rain, Newgarden lost control of his Penske car after dipping his left-front onto the rumble strip at the start of Turn 4.
He spat off into the concrete barrier on the outside of the track, coming to rest further down the barrier with the car destroyed in the impact.
He was able to climb unaided from the wreck, but an ambulance was called onto the track to assist the two-time Indy 500 winner, as a precaution.
Under the caution, Malukas leads from Alex Palou, Conor Daly, and Scott Dixon with Newgarden crashing out from fourth place after the huge impact.
The race had been run under caution since Lap 98 bar a brief period following a red flag for rain, in which Malukas snatched the lead from Palou on Lap 114 before a 10-lap caution period for rain, which ended as Malukas brought the field to green before Newgarden crashed.
