Lando Norris admits to eyeing further non-F1 temptations with McLaren

Lando Norris has admitted he is keen on participating in further forms of racing outside of Formula 1, as McLaren’s preparations for its World Endurance Championship Hypercar continue to ramp up.

The topic of F1 drivers seeking thrills from extracurricular activities via different race tracks has been a hot-button one lately, with Max Verstappen’s exploits in GT3 racing sparking interest.

Verstappen’s appearances at the Nurburgring has no doubt given drivers an opportunity to vocalise their keenness to get behind the wheel of different machines, Norris included.

After attending last weekend’s Monaco E-Prix, the reigning World Champion spoke of his interest in testing a Formula E car, with the upcoming Gen4 car being given a run-out by former F1 star and FE commentator David Coulthard.

And speaking on McLaren’s YouTube channel, Norris cited McLaren’s WEC programme as a potential avenue to racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“You know, I still feel like I want to go and try other things. Do Le Mans, now McLaren are doing Le Mans, so maybe go and do that at some point,” he said.

“But I don’t know. I’m still young, so I’ve not thought of everything just yet. But, you know, in the future hopefully I have kids and they get into racing or something and then I can live the story again.”

Norris has rediscovered form via the MCL40’s resurgence in Miami, taking Sprint Race victory, and with a second-place finish, the Brit is well-placed to exorcise the demons of his collision with teammate Oscar Piastri in Montreal last year.
