Lando Norris has called for McLaren to investigate exactly what triggered his costly second-practice stoppage ahead of this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.
The reigning world champion's car completely shut down during second practice, forcing him to stop in the run-off area at the Nouvelle Chicane and resulting in valuable track time being lost.
Norris suffered a suspected battery-related failure, while his car also proved challenging for the marshals to recover due to the clutch appearing to be stuck.
He also faces a stewards' investigation into why the marshals were unable to safely move his car, having instead been forced to lift it themselves and use a dolly.
In addition to the mechanical failure, Norris generally struggled for outright pace throughout the opening day at the Circuit de Monaco, recognising that work is required to unlock more performance.
"Tricky day," said Norris. "We're clearly off the pace and need to find time all across the lap. Frustrating to lose track time today, as that's always important here in Monaco.
"The car simply turned off, so we need to investigate what happened there.
“We'll work hard overnight to try and get more performance out of the car, but realistically it's going to be difficult to compete at the front of the field this weekend based on where we are compared to the competition.
"It’s not necessarily a surprise, but it’s not where we want to be, so we’ll work hard to understand what we’re missing and try to recover where we can for tomorrow."
