Toyota has clawed itself back into the fight for overall victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours on Sunday morning, and is just one second behind the leading Cadillac machine.
The #8 Toyota, currently driven by Rio Hirakawa, is just one second behind the long-time leading #12 Cadillac of Norman Nato after overcoming brake issues early in the morning, which required multiple pit-stops.
The Toyotas, wiht Kamui Kobayashi in the #7, were aided on fuel strategy by a lengthy safety car period after an LMGT3 car crashed into the barriers, with the race under caution for about an hour-and-a-half whilst repairs were carried out.
During this time, th #50 Ferrari Hypercar suffered an energy system fault and retired, with the two remaining cars in fifth, with James Calado on the #51 and sixth with the AF Corse customer Ferrari, with Robert Kubica.
They are behind the BMW of Robin Frijns in the #20, which was battling for the lead with the #12 Cadillac before falling back. However, Frijns is just 6.6s behind the leading Cadillac with less than four hours to go - meaning the top four are less than 10s apart.
In LMP2, the #30 continues to lead, with the crew containing Mercedes F1 junior Doriane Pin, whilst in LMGT3, the #33 Corvette looks set for the class win, in part thanks to a strong overnight stint from Nicky Catsburg.
