Lego unveil 'fastest ever car' featuring iconic 'ghost mode'

Lego has unveiled its 'fastest-ever car' - a life-sized model of its new Technic Ultimate Car Concept Series, the Koenigsegg Sadair Spear. 

The Swedish supercar manufacturer has been chosen to be the next in Lego's Technic Ultimate series, which has previously included models such as the Ferrari Daytona, Porsche 911, and McLaren P1. 

Made from a total of 327,906 elements, Koenigsegg and Lego engineers have worked together to create a life-sized model, which Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lundh took down the Goodwood Hill in 2025, reaching a top-speed of 111kph, 68.9mph. That is the record for the fastest a Lego car has ever gone. 

Taking over 9,400 hours to develop and build, it weighs 1,800kg - but remarkably, also features the iconic 'ghost mode' on Koenigsegg cars - where the rear engine cover, doors, mirrors and front all raise. 

The teams have also created a traditional Technic set of the real-life car - itself complete with ghost mode, unique triplex suspension, and a functioning 9-speed transmission gearbox. 

The gearbox was the first team Lego engineers have had to create a 9-speed transmission, which was a major challenge successfully overcome, with a rotating gear indicator showing up on a 'dashboard' inside the vehicle as the flappy padel shifters are used.

This set contains 4,104 Lego pieces, of which some had to be uniquely designed by the team, and will be available for early access from July 1st, and the wider public fro July 4th. It will cost £399.99 GBP.

Reflecting on the build process, senior model designer Kasper Hansen described the idea of 'pushing the boundaries of what is possible" in the new models.

"Our ambition was to create the most advanced Lego Technic build we’ve ever produced," he said.

"Incorporating features such as a working Ghost Mode, a 9-speed sequential gearbox and the unique Triplex suspension system, all firsts for a Technic Ultimate model, pushed the boundaries of what’s possible. 

"We hope this set captures the spirit and technical sophistication of the Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear, while delivering a rewarding experience for builders. This set really embodies the philosophy of Lego Technic: Build For Real!
