Liam Lawson hails mind-blogging experience: 'It doesn't really make sense'

Liam Lawson has hailed the mind-boggling experience of driving Ford's SuperVan 4 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, describing it as something that does not "really make sense".

The Racing Bulls driver has been incredibly busy at this weekend's iconic motorsport event, driving a wide variety of vehicles up the Goodwood hill.

However, the craziest of them all is Ford's SuperVan 4, a staggering all-electric high-performance van built by the American manufacturer and Austrian motorsport specialists STARD.

In addition to producing a breathtaking 2,000 bhp, the SuperVan is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in under two seconds.

Asked if it is one of the craziest cars he has driven at Goodwood, Lawson told the official broadcast: "Yeah, it is. I've driven it before on a track, a slightly different version of it, but yeah, it's 2,000 horsepower, so it's pretty impressive. 

"It's got really soft tyres on it, so it's actually got plenty of grip. But just driving a van at that speed – it doesn't really make sense."

Lawson has some experience of not only driving the SuperVan himself but also racing against it in a drag race, with it still being an "insane" memory.

Discussing the fact that the look is the only van-like feature, Lawson replied: "Yeah, it is, and its size. I remember I did a drag race a few years ago with one of these. 

"I was driving a Formula 1 car, and the spectacle of a van punching through the air at nearly 200 miles an hour is just insane. So it's quite impressive."
