Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has revealed that an announcement will be made on Sunday confirming whether Formula 1 will return to the country later this year.
It was initially reported by The Race earlier this week that a shock return to the Sepang International Circuit was on the cards as a one-off.
According to the publication, a first race in Malaysia since 2017 is a possibility as a replacement for Bahrain, which was unable to take place earlier this season.
The ongoing crisis in the Middle East is causing major calendar headaches for Formula 1 and other world championships, both in 2026 and 2027.
There were hopes Bahrain could be rescheduled for 4 October, creating a triple-header with Azerbaijan and Singapore.
With a race at the Bahrain International Circuit looking highly unlikely following an escalation in the crisis, Malaysia could reportedly take the slot at the start of October.
Sepang has since posted teaser posts and videos on social media, with the nation's Prime Minister revealing that an announcement regarding Formula 1 will be made on Sunday.
"With regards to F1, we will make an announcement on Sunday," the Prime Minister told the press after attending the opening ceremony of SMKA Sheikh Tahir Jalaluddin, as quoted by The Star.
