McLaren has confirmed it will introduce its own version of an upside-down rear wing at this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix.
The Woking-based outfit will join Ferrari and Red Bull in devising and introducing the extraordinary Formula 1 upgrade, nicknamed the "Macarena wing".
Ferrari caught the entire F1 paddock by surprise when it introduced its upside-down rear wing for the first time during the opening Bahrain pre-season test.
It was not until the Miami Grand Prix that the Italian squad raced with it, while Red Bull also introduced its own version at the Miami International Autodrome.
It now seems another team will join the trend, as at the Red Bull Ring this weekend, McLaren is set to trial its own rotating rear wing during Friday's two practice sessions.
In essence, the top flap of the rear wing rotates into an upside-down position in straight-line mode, reducing drag and increasing top speed.
With Ferrari and Red Bull having used an upside-down rear wing for much of the season, and McLaren set to trial its own, it is clearly viewed as an effective and valuable upgrade.
It will form part of a wider upgrade package for McLaren at the Austrian Grand Prix, where Red Bull will also introduce its second major upgrade package of the year.
Ferrari is also expected to introduce improvements to its internal combustion engine.
