Nurburgring 24 Hours result in doubt over disqualification threat

Almost two weeks after the Nürburgring 24 Hours, the results of that race are still not final. Technical investigations are focusing on the #84 Lamborghini Huracán of Abt Sportsline.

Abt Sportsline risks losing its second place in the Nürburgring  24 Hours following a technical inspection - almost two weeks after the conclusion of the race.

It has been suggested that the #84 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2, driven by Mirko Bortolotti, Patric Niederhauser and polesitter Luca Engstler, ran at around 20 horsepower above the maximum permissible values in a dyno test on Tuesday.

The permissible tolerance is two per cent. With an estimated power output of 500hp, this equates to a maximum of 10hp.

A race spokesperson has confirmed that, following checks, no irregularities were found in five other cars from Aston Martin, BMW, Ford, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche.

The technical commissioners' report has been forwarded to the race commissioners, who will allow the team to respond. Until then, the results remain subject to change.

The Abt Lamborghini initially could not be inspected due to a faulty clutch. After supervised repairs, a new measurement followed at a test centre in Mechernich.

The test on Tuesday continued until 6 pm due to observed irregularities. A new measurement on Wednesday also failed to produce a valid result due to a technical defect on the vehicle.

Should the team be disqualified, Abt would have 96 hours to appeal to the German Motorsport Federation.

If the disqualification is upheld, Walkenhorst Motorsport with the Aston Martin Vantage, and Rowe Racing with the BMW M4, would benefit by moving up to second and third, respectively.
