Oscar Piastri was handed a 10-second penalty in the Canadian Grand Prix for causing a collision that led to the retirement of Williams' Alex Albon.
Piastri and McLaren team-mate Lando Norris started the race on intermediate tyres, a decision that proved incorrect and costly because although the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve was slightly damp in places after earlier rain, and spots in the air, it failed to hit hard enough.
The Australian opted to pit at the end of the first racing lap, pitching him back into the pack, where he later came into contact with Albon at the hairpin.
Piastri made a move on the Thai-British driver but went too deep, leading to him running into the side of the FW48.
The damage sustained forced Albon into retirement, whilst Piastri had to make a second stop for a new front wing.
The stewards also took a dim view and handed him a 10-second time penalty.
