Toto Wolff has told George Russell he must 'keep both feet on the ground' following a huge setback in his title odds during the Monaco Grand Prix.
Russell ultimately finished in 12th place in Monte Carlo, having qualified sixth, with his race being undone by not serving a five-second time penalty for speeding in the pit-lane correctly, with the Briton being handed a drive-through penalty.
However, he was given this harsher sanction under the late race red flag, meaning once he served it, he fell out of the points as team-mate Kimi Antonelli racked up a fifth straight grand prix win - as Russell went point-less for the second race after breaking down from the lead in Canada.
Russell is now 68 points behind Antonelli - almost three grands prix wins worth of points - and has slipped to third in the drivers' standings behind Lewis Hamilton, but his team boss is confident Russell can strike back.
"George is really good at analysing and assessing the situation," Wolff began to tell media, including RacingNews365.
"I told him that he was on pole, he won the Sprint race, and was leading the main grand prix, and there was no discussion about a lack of speed.
"That was two weeks ago, so we've got to stay with both feet on the ground, work through the data and see why Monaco was difficult, and why Miami was difficult, but it is not a pattern that I've seen through the season.
"I couldn't wish for a better combination of the two in the car, and I have no doubt that George will come back very strong, and that makes us good as a team - that we have two drivers who we can rely on to score poles and wins, and also help us win a constructors' championship."
