Who is F1 safety car driver?

The safety car in F1 is driven by former racing driver Bernd Maylander.

German Maylander has driven the safety car in F1 at every race since 2000, with a handful of exceptions, including the 2001 Monaco and Canadian Grands Prix.

Maylander himself never competed in F1, but is a race-winner in the DTM series in Germany, and in 1999, finished second with his team-mates in his class at the Le Mans 24 Hours in his Porsche 911 machine.

He last raced in DTM in 2004 before transitioning to his safety car driver duties on a full-time basis.
