Williams has announced the appointment of former McLaren chief operating officer Piers Thynne alongside three other senior technical recruits as James Vowles continues his aggressive reshaping of the Grove outfit.
Thynne, who will join in August as the newly-created chief optimisation and planning officer, was a central figure in McLaren's operational transformation that underpinned their back-to-back constructors' championships in 2024 and 2025.
He brings more than 25 years of operations and manufacturing leadership to a team currently eighth in the standings with just five points from four races.
His remit at Williams will encompass streamlining processes, optimising resources, and deploying cutting-edge technology, including robotics, AI and advanced manufacturing, to modernise the team's facilities.
"I am delighted to be joining Williams F1 Team at what is a really exciting moment," Thynne said. "Williams has clear ambition to be championship level in all areas and set new standards in the sport, and I can't wait to play my part in that as a member of the senior leadership group.
"I have enjoyed a fantastic time at McLaren, helping bring the team back to the top, and hope we will be able to do the same at Williams."
Thynne is not arriving alone. Williams has also recruited Claire Simpson as head of aerodynamic development after 12 years at Mercedes, where she was part of the team that won eight constructors' titles. She will work alongside chief aerodynamicist Juan Molina to bolster the team's aero capabilities.
Fred Judd joins as head of performance optimisation from Mercedes High Performance Powertrains, where he spent 17 years in roles including chief trackside engineer and as the lead for the 2026 power unit development programme.
Steve Booth, meanwhile, arrives from Alpine as head of vehicle engineering, bringing experience of the Renault squad's consecutive title wins in 2005 and 2006.
Between them, the four new recruits have worked on 12 championship-winning cars and bring more than 65 years of combined F1 experience to Grove.
The appointments follow the arrival of Dan Milner from Mercedes as chief engineer for vehicle technology in April, with Williams indicating that further senior hires from across the grid are expected in the coming months.
"I am thrilled to be welcoming Piers to Williams F1 Team as we continue investing in the people, processes and technology to compete at the front in Formula 1," team principal Vowles said.
"We are clear in our ambition to build a team that can win world championships, and Piers has unrivalled recent experience in doing exactly that.
"I am also delighted to welcome Claire, Fred and Steve; we are attracting extremely talented strategic recruits from throughout the paddock who will add to the foundations we have already put in place over the past few years and help take us to the next level."
