McLaren CEO Zak Brown has addressed what McLaren could offer Max Verstappen that Red Bull cannot, although he once again stressed that there is no room for the four-time world champion.
Verstappen has been increasingly linked with a possible move to McLaren in recent weeks, despite Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri both being on multi-year contracts.
According to reports, Verstappen's camp recently initiated talks with the Woking-based outfit, but Brown has outlined that it cannot offer the 28-year-old a race seat.
The four-time world champion is growing increasingly frustrated with Red Bull and has yet to commit his future to the Austrian outfit.
Verstappen will be in a position to activate a release clause at the Hungarian Grand Prix before the summer break, which would allow him to quit Formula 1 or move elsewhere for 2027.
McLaren has made several high-profile signings from Red Bull in recent years, the latest being Verstappen's long-time race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase.
Despite Brown's insistence that Verstappen will not be joining McLaren, the rumours are intensifying rather than going away.
Asked what McLaren could offer Verstappen that Red Bull cannot, Brown responded: "I haven’t really thought about that because I’ve got two drivers in the seats. So, what I couldn’t offer him was a seat in my race car.
"But I think McLaren’s an awesome team. So is Red Bull, and so is Alpine, and so is Ferrari. The Formula 1 teams are amazing. I think we’ve got a unique environment, but as do all race teams.
"But we’ve got a great race team that’s had a lot of success, and I think it’s a good place to work, whether you’re a racing driver or a team principal or a mechanic, or whatever you may be at team McLaren."
