Formula 1 has extended the São Paulo Grand Prix contract by five years, keeping the race at Interlagos through 2035.
Motorsport.com reports that Formula 1 chiefs, the city of São Paulo and the Interlagos promoters agreed the extension. PlanetF1 reports that the announcement came during the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix weekend.
“The passion of our Brazilian fans is extraordinary, and every time we return to Interlagos we feel their energy in the grandstands and in the city of São Paulo,” said Formula 1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali.
“I would like to thank Stefano Domenicali and Formula 1 for their trust and partnership, as well as Mayor Ricardo Nunes and São Paulo City Council for their extraordinary support and ongoing investment in the modernisation of Interlagos,” said São Paulo Grand Prix president and CEO Alan Adler.
“We are ensuring the continuity of one of the world’s biggest sporting events, which boosts the economy, creates jobs, strengthens tourism and raises our city’s international profile,” said São Paulo mayor Ricardo Nunes. “Formula 1 benefits a wide range of sectors, such as hotels, restaurants, retail and services, generating opportunities and income for the local population.”
Motorsport.com reports that Formula 1 management wants to secure long-term race agreements in key markets.
The previous contract ran through 2030, following a five-year extension signed on the eve of the 2023 event.
The race’s official São Paulo Grand Prix name reflects the city council’s financial contribution.
Interlagos, formally the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, held its first Formula 1 championship race in 1973. Fernando Alonso secured titles there in 2005 and 2006, while Lewis Hamilton clinched his first championship at the track in 2008.
