Racing Bulls extends Alan Permane’s contract through 2031

The five-season extension also keeps Permane as sporting co-CEO alongside Peter Bayer.

Formula Report

Alan Permane has signed a new contract to remain Racing Bulls team principal through 2031, with the team currently fifth in the constructors’ championship.

Permane will continue as co-CEO responsible for sporting matters, while Peter Bayer retains responsibility for the commercial side.

Racing Bulls leads Alpine by 39 points with four race weekends remaining. Fifth place would be the team’s best-ever constructors’ championship finish.

“What makes this team special is the shared spirit of everyone; trackside, in Faenza and in Milton Keynes, and it is a privilege to lead such a talented and committed group every day,” said Permane.

“Alan is doing a tremendous job, and the progress the team has made is a direct reflection of his experience, commitment and competitive mindset,” said Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff.

Permane joined Racing Bulls as racing director in 2024 and became team principal in July 2025 when Laurent Mekies moved to Red Bull. It was Permane’s first role leading a Formula 1 pit wall.

Racing Bulls has scored 108 points so far in 2026, compared with 92 in 2025 and 46 in 2024.

Isack Hadjar secured the team’s first podium under the Racing Bulls name at the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix during Permane’s tenure. The team finished sixth in that season’s constructors’ championship, matching its previous best.

Permane began his Formula 1 career at Benetton in 1989 as an electronics engineer. He stayed with the organisation through its Renault, Lotus and Alpine identities until 2023, serving in roles including race engineer and sporting director.
