F1 movie receives multiple Oscar nominations
The Brad Pitt F1 movie has been nominated for multiple Oscars ahead
of March's prestigious ceremony. Released in 2025, the film charts
the story of Sonny Hayes, who is tempted out of retirement to come
to the aid of the failing APXGP team, alongside team-mate Joshua
Pearce, with the two drivers played by Pitt and Damson Idris,
respectively. F1 was heavily involved in the production of the
film, including over multiple grands prix, including the 2023
British GP, where the fictional cars actually lined up at the back
of the grid for the formation lap before peeling away. Lewis
Hamilton served as an executive producer for the film, which has
earned about $631 million at the global box office, and is the
highest-grossing film of Pitt's career, eclipsing 2013's World War
Z. As awards season comes around, F1 has now been nominated for
four Oscars, including the prestigious 'Best Picture'. The last
sports film to win the main award was Million Dollar Baby in 2004.
The other categories in which F1 has been nominated are 'Best Film
Editing,' 'Best Sound' and 'Best Visual Effects.' The ceremony will
take place on March 15th in Los Angeles, the day of the Chinese
Grand Prix.
