Aston Martin 'on another level' as Lewis Hamilton drops major Ferrari hint – RacingNews365 Review

The radical-looking 2026 Aston Martin F1 car has been described as "on another level" with "incredible attention to detail" as the Adrian Newey design turned testing heads. The Honda-powered machine did not head out on track in Spain until late on Thursday, with Lance Stroll completing a handful of slow laps, before veteran Fernando Alonso drove a Newey-designed car for the first time on Friday, completing 49 laps.  READ MORE: Radical Aston Martin 'on another level' as striking Adrian Newey influence clear Lewis Hamilton drops major first hint over 2026 Ferrari F1 car Lewis Hamilton has delivered his verdict on the new generation of F1 cars after topping the Barcelona pre-season shakedown, hinting it could be a return to some of his strengths. Audi facing 'longest ever list' as true scale of F1 challenge unmasked

Audi chief Mattia Binotto says he has "never seen such a long list" of issues it must fix after the Barcelona pre-season shakedown.  In its first pre-season test in F1, Audi completed 240 laps across the permitted three days of running, but Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto were hampered by niggling problems with the R26 machine, with Bortoleto stopping on track on one occasion. Whilst Audi is not the only new power unit manufacturer on the 2026 grid, with Red Bull Powertrains also debuting, it is the only team to be running its own in-house power unit, with RBPT powering both Red Bull and Racing Bulls, meaning twice the data is able to be gathered. Whilst he is optimistic that the team can solve the issues before heading to the Bahrain tests in February, Binotto described how he had "never seen" a list of the length of the problems Audi discovered at the former Spanish Grand Prix host venue.  "It is a lot of work for the entire team, it is a lot of work for the drivers, for the engineers back at home fixing all the problems in design and operationals, whatever we have seen," Binotto explained. "For us, it is no stone left unturned, and we need all the details to be managed and fixed, so we've got a very long, a very, very long list. "I've never seen such a long list, but I think it is great because the team is really committed and willing to improve and come to Bahrain in better shape. "There is a lot to build, a lot to grow, but the three days of running have been very, very important, and I think we are doing well for where we are in our journey. "The reliability is always very critical, but we had several small problems, not dramatic, but there are a lot of positives looking forward. "This is the beginning for Audi of our experience as a team, as a power unit manufacturer, and I would sum up that there is a lot to learn, and we are learning a lot.  "The more we run, the more we learn."

Impressive Mercedes thunder on in Barcelona as Lando Norris shows off new McLaren

Mercedes maintained its sterling reliability at the start of 2026 F1 pre-season testing as George Russell clocked up the laps on a day when McLaren finally made its first appearance. It was a day when several teams made an appearance, as the forecasted rain failed to materialise, although for Audi and Haas it did not go as planned. Nico Hulkenberg had managed four laps in the Audi before encountering an apparent technical issue that has since consigned him to the garage, whilst Oliver Bearman also caused a brief interruption, but was back on track just before the lunch break. After sitting out the first two days of the five-day private test at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya, all eyes were naturally on the McLaren garage to see if the MCL40 would make an appearance. Finally, bearing the No.1 on his car, F1 champion Lando Norris took to the track to complete systems checks, clocking 34 laps, seemingly without any issues. The car is expected to run more productively over the final two days. In terms of reliability, Mercedes again made a particular impression. George Russell had completed 92 laps by 1 pm local time. After the car completed 154 laps on Monday, between Russell and team-mate Kimi Antonelli, the Silver Arrows is currently amassing the data on its W17. Russell also ended the morning session with the fastest lap, 1:17.580s, set late on. For some time, Alpine's Franco Colapinto had led the way with a 1:19.150s. Racing Bulls has also been on track, with Arvid Lindblad behind the wheel. Red Bull opted to skip the test day after Isack Hadjar's crash, while Ferrari and Cadillac have not yet appeared. Aston Martin and Williams were already known not to be there on Wednesday. View the all-new McLaren below!

Nico Hulkenberg remains tight-lipped after Audi 'temptation'

Nico Hulkenberg has remained tight-lipped on the performance of Audi’s first Formula 1 car, although he revealed that being involved in the project was always "very tempting". Audi is one of two new teams on the grid this season—Cadillac is the other—having successfully acquired the Stake F1 operation. The German manufacturer unveiled its livery for the 2026 campaign on Tuesday evening in Berlin, although a filming day with its R26—the name of its new car—has already been completed. Hulkenberg knew when he joined Stake ahead of the 2025 campaign on a multi-year deal that he would be involved in the Audi project, which was a major reason for his move from Haas. Asked if it was a dream to be with Audi, Hulkenberg told select media, including RacingNews365 , at the team’s launch: "It’s definitely something very tempting and exciting. "That’s why, two or three years ago, when I decided to go for this project—quite some time before now, before it became a reality—I could already see the temptation and what it would become. "So yes, now to see it come to life, to become a reality, it’s nice." Audi conducted a filming day in Barcelona on January 9. However, with limited running completed and the car not fitted with the correct F1 tyres, Hulkenberg has remained quiet on what it felt like. Discussing what the car felt like during Audi’s filming day, Hulkenberg replied: "I can’t share much because it’s a filming day. "You don’t have the real tyres, and it’s not running in anger, so unfortunately, we need to wait."
