Red Bull skip Barcelona test Day 4 as wait for spare parts continues

Red Bull will not take to the Barcelona track on Thursday as it waits for spare parts to arrive at the circuit. The Milton Keynes-based squad used two out of its three test days to collect on Monday and Tuesday earlier this week. However, its run on Tuesday ended abruptly when Isack Hadjar slid off the circuit and sustained damage against the barrier. Red Bull confirmed it would not run on Wednesday as it continued to assess the car, and RacingNews365 now understands it will also skip Thursday. This is due to the fact it is still waiting for spare parts to arrive at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The parts are set to arrive at the track later in the day, which will allow Red Bull to complete the repair job. It is then expected that Red Bull will return to the circuit on Friday - a situation the team is optimistic will play out. Aside from Hadjar's crash, Red Bull clocked up respectable mileage across the opening two days as it collected data on its brand-new power unit.

Red Bull make Barcelona Day 3 test decision after Isack Hadjar crash

Red Bull will not take to the track on Wednesday in Barcelona as it continues to carry out an assessment of the RB22. The Milton Keynes-based squad was present and tallying laps at the opening two days of the shakedown event on Monday and Tuesday. However, its test took a hit on Tuesday evening when Isack Hadjar slipped off the road and collided with the barrier at Turn 14. Speaking after the day of running, team principal Laurent Mekies confirmed the team would “carefully” consider when it would take to the track once again. The F1 teams are only allowed to run three days this week, meaning Red Bull has just one more test day in hand before it travels to the second test in Bahrain next month. RacingNews365 understands that Red Bull has now decided it will not field its car on Wednesday as it carries out assessments on the car. Despite the setback, Mekies asserted it has been a positive week thus far for Red Bull. “It was very tricky conditions this afternoon, so very unfortunate that it finished that way, but it's part of the game,” he said. “These difficulties came after a very, very positive day yesterday in terms of the number of laps Isack could complete in the car, and in terms of his learning and development and feedback to the engineers.”

McLaren explain Barcelona F1 pre-season test delay

McLaren has confirmed it will finally run over the final three days of this week's pre-season test in Barcelona. Team principal Andrea Stella declared last week that the team would conduct a filming day, when 200 kilometres are allowed, on the opening day of the private, five-day test at the Circuit de Catalunya. Although the majority of the teams conducted meaningful running on Monday, with the likes of Mercedes and Haas clocking 154 laps apiece, McLaren did not emerge on track. On Tuesday, the inclement weather, with rain hitting the circuit mid-morning and continuing into the afternoon, meant McLaren continued to keep its MCL40, which is due to run in an interim test livery, under wraps. Although rain is again forecast on Wednesday, the team has stated it will get its programme up and running, whilst also explaining why it has intentionally delayed matters so far. "With track testing for the 2026 season underway and the permitted running time limited to three days over a five-day period, the McLaren has approached this week’s Barcelona shakedown utilising the full flexibility of the programme," the team stated. "We plan to run on track for the final three days of testing, while the opening days have provided an important opportunity for the full car to be assembled and checked." It is now yet known whether Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri will be first behind the wheel.

F1 teams missing en masse in Barcelona as Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc handed free track

If we look at who has been on track for the second day of F1 pre-season testing in Barcelona, the list is particularly short. Only two drivers were able to clock any laps at the Circuit de Catalunya before the expected rain arrived, namely Red Bull's four-time F1 champion Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc in his Ferrari. Verstappen did not have the best of starts, however, suffering a trip into the gravel on his first lap, sparking a brief red flag as he was able to continue to the pits before moving on with his programme. Given the forecast for the day, Mercedes confirmed 20 minutes before the start that it would not run. Haas announced 14 minutes after that it would not be on track, although adding that this was planned as it was "focusing on all the data gathered yesterday". There was also no sign of Audi, Racing Bulls, Alpine and Cadillac emerging from the garage, whilst it was already known that Aston Martin and Williams are not in attendance, with the former hoping to take part on Thursday. The biggest question mark hangs over reigning constructors' champions McLaren. The team had expressed its intention to take to the track for the first time today, but it looks set to be stymied by the weather, which is poised to continue into tomorrow. As for the only two drivers who did take to the circuit, Verstappen and Leclerc posted times in the 1:20s, good enough for a spot in the midfield on Monday.

Red Bull make striking decision for first 2026 F1 test

Red Bull has selected 18 sets of the C3 soft compound tyre for the upcoming first pre-season test in Barcelona, as confirmed by Pirelli. Ahead of next week’s five-day official shakedown test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Pirelli revealed that the C1 (Hard), C2 (Medium), C3 (Soft), Intermediate, and Wet compounds will be available. Upon revealing the compounds on offer to the teams in Spain, F1’s tyre supplier confirmed how many of each set every team had selected. As first reported by RacingNews365, Williams will miss the test following issues passing the FIA’s mandatory crash tests. The Grove-based outfit released a statement on Friday afternoon confirming it would be absent from Barcelona to continue focusing on preparing its 2026 F1 car. Across the five-day test, the teams present are permitted to run for three days, with McLaren and Ferrari both having revealed they will not start running on the first day. Being the first real running of the cars, each team has its own programme in mind, resulting in huge differences in how many sets of each compound the teams have taken. As mentioned, Red Bull has remarkably opted for 18 sets of soft tyres, one set of mediums, and no hard tyres. Barcelona will see the RB22 on track for the first time, with no shakedown having been conducted ahead of the test — a strategy also taken by McLaren. For Barcelona, McLaren has selected four sets of C1 tyres, 10 sets of C2 tyres, and six sets of C3 tyres. Mercedes has selected the most hard tyres in the paddock for Barcelona, opting for eight sets. Ferrari, which unveiled the SF-26 on Friday before undergoing an initial shakedown, has selected the most C2 tyres, with the Scuderia to receive 12 sets, while no team has opted for more soft tyres than Red Bull.
