Radical Aston Martin 'on another level' as striking Adrian Newey influence clear

The radical-looking 2026 Aston Martin F1 car has been described as "on another level" with "incredible attention to detail" as the Adrian Newey design turned testing heads. The Honda-powered machine did not head out on track in Spain until late on Thursday, with Lance Stroll completing a handful of slow laps, before veteran Fernando Alonso drove a Newey-designed car for the first time on Friday, completing 49 laps.  Aston Martin has high hopes for the new era of F1, with heavy investment into a state-of-the-art factory at Silverstone, a works Honda engine deal, as well as signing design genius Newey, with his take on the regulations eagerly anticipated. Newey's eye-catching design was dissected by RacingNews365's technical analyst Paolo Filisetti, as an old team hand took to social media to describe the process behind the AMR26. "AMR26 - my 25th F1 car build, but my first "Newey" car," Neil Zambardi-Christie, the fabrication leader, wrote on LinkedIn, having been with the team since its Jordan days and through the Midland, Spyker, Force India, and Racing Point guises. "There's been some great cars over the years (and a couple of shockers), but this one is on another level. The design and attention to detail is incredible, but what's more impressive is the way in which the entire team has risen to the challenges created by the designs and timeframes involved.  "Every single member of staff has had a hand in this, from the factory cleaners, right up to the technical directors, because it's a team effort and everyone should be proud of what we've created.  "A lot of people have worked crazy hours for months on end to get to here and the strain on them and their families and loved ones gets massively underestimated, but their commitment and dedication and sheer bloody hard work is what's got us to this point, so they deserve way more credit than they'll probably ever get, but it's a big thanks from me to all my colleagues.  "A fantastic team effort that I'm proud to be part of. "Time will tell if it's any good, but if it goes as fast as it looks, we could be in for a good year..."

Aston Martin 'emotional' over F1 2026 debut after Barcelona delay

Aston Martin chief trackside officer Mike Krack has labelled the team's on-track debut as “emotional”. The Silverstone-based squad was delayed in getting its car to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the pre-season shakedown event. In the closing stages of Thursday's test, the car emerged from the garage with Lance Stroll behind the wheel. There is much anticipation surrounding Aston Martin's car this year as it is the team's first challenger built by Adrian Newey - regarded as one of the sport's greatest designers. The car's features turned heads when it rolled out of the garage , as Krack highlighted the importance of the moment for the team. “Each time when you have a new car, it's always emotional,” he said. “It's a very, very, very exciting moment. A lot of hard work went into it over the last days. “There's still a lot of work to come, but I think we can take a breath and be happy that we rolled out the car.  “It was really emotional and a nice moment for the team and a tribute to the hard work that everybody put in.  The AMR26 managed just four laps before it stuttered to a halt on the track, equipped with the new Honda power unit. Aston Martin now has one final day of running to get through in Barcelona before it heads to Bahrain for the second test. “F1 is relentless,” Krack added.  “You always have to look forward, and there will be much more hard work to come, but we're looking forward to that.”

Honda reveal F1 power unit in Aston Martin 'works' partnership celebration

Honda and Aston Martin have celebrated the start of its 'works' partnership in launch event in Tokyo, where the Japanese manufacturer's power unit was revealed.  After several years with Red Bull, Honda has switched to Aston Martin for the start of Formula 1's new power unit regulations, which feature a 50/50 split between electrical power and internal combustion.  It is a significant step for Aston Martin, who after only ever being a customer team now hold official 'works' status, due to the nature of its partnership with Honda.  The event in the Japanese capital was attended by Aston Martin CEO Lawrence Stroll, Honda President Toshihiro Mibe and F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali. "I am delighted to celebrate the start of our partnership with Honda here in Tokyo today," said Stroll. "Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team and Honda share many values, and those values have brought us together for 2026 and beyond. "The strong collaboration between the AMR Technology Centre at Silverstone and Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) in Sakura demonstrates the depth of our partnership. We are confident that we have all the elements required to fight for victory in the future and we have tremendous faith in Honda’s Power Unit and the engineers behind it.  "Our journey won’t always be easy and challenges inevitably lie ahead, but winning is what drives both companies forward and together we look forward to many successful years of partnership." As part of the event, Honda's newest F1 power unit – the RA626H – which will only be used by Aston Martin was unveiled.  The brand has been working with Aston Martin and its key partners Aramco and Valvoline ahead of the new season, with key input from chief strategy officer Andy Cowell. "Honda’s participation in F1, the pinnacle of automobile racing, has been the embodiment of the spirit of the company founder, Soichiro Honda, who inspired Honda engineers to commit to becoming No.1 in the world and to take on the most difficult challenges," said Mibe. "In 2026, F1 will undergo a major change in regulations for both the chassis and power unit. Honda sees F1 as a symbol of challenge and innovation, and HRC, the global racing arm of Honda, has developed the RA626H, the new power unit for the 2026 season, to meet those challenges. Striving to become number One in the world, Honda will continue to take on challenges together with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. "Today we also launch a new H mark with a refreshed design, which Honda has adopted as the new symbol representing its automobile business. This new H mark symbolizes the transformation of Honda ‘s automobile business so it is an important moment for us."
